Teacher Assistant / Teacher Aide Vacancy – Salary $45,000 – $50,000 per year

The incumbent is a Teacher Assistant or Teacher Aide and is responsible for providing exceptional childcare services to the House community.

Duties

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer provides support services and business solutions for the 10,000 House Members, Officers, and staff. More than 650 administrative and technical staff work in various areas of the CAO organization, including finance, budget management, and human resources. They also provide support services and business solutions to 10,000 House Members, Officers, and staff.

Since 1987, the House of Representatives Child Care Center has provided quality, full-day childcare for members of Congress, staff, as well as House support personnel, all year. The National Association for the Education of Young Children has awarded the HRCCC accreditation. This is a developmental-based childcare program that works with parents to help them develop their whole child. Our goal is to provide high-quality care and learning experiences that are developmentally appropriate in a safe, nurturing, diverse, and supportive environment for the House Community’s children and their families.

As a Teacher Assistant or Teacher Aide, the incumbent is responsible for providing exceptional childcare services to the House community. The Lead Teacher and an Age-Group specific Assistant Director will oversee the duties and responsibilities. The Infant (10 to 12 months), Young Toddler (1 and 2 years), Older Toddler (2 and 3 years), Preschool (3-4 years), Preschool (3-4 years), Preschool (4 to 4 years), or Pre-K (4–5 years) classroom. Floaters rotate through the classrooms to ensure adequate coverage. The position does not have supervisory/managerial responsibilities unless otherwise directed.

The salary is commensurate to experience, with an annual minimum of $45,634.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist with supervision of the delivery of childcare services in the classrooms. Assist children with their needs, including diaper changing, toileting, feeding, and comforting. Assist children with their emotional, cognitive, and physical needs.

2. Provide leadership support. Assist in leading and coaching the team and modeling high-quality work. Assist the Lead Teacher in all aspects of classroom operation. In the absence of the Lead teacher, provide classroom management. Only Teachers Assistants

3. Health and safety are top priorities. This includes but is not limited to performing daily child safety and health checks, maintaining a child-to-staff ratio, active supervision of children, knowing all special health needs and dietary requirements, responding to emergencies and monitoring for illness and injury, following cleaning and sanitation guidelines, and using universal precautions. Any relevant information, concerns, or issues relating to staff, children, or families should be brought to the attention of Lead Teachers and Directors immediately.

4. Assist with assessment planning, implementation, documentation, and support for the supervision of a child-centered, developmentally appropriate curriculum. Children and their families can be supported through transitions such as enrollment and withdrawal.

5. Contribute to the classroom and Child Care Center. Participate in meetings and share ideas to improve services. Participate in short-term and long-term initiatives and projects. Participate in after-action evaluations and give feedback as needed.

6. Keep accurate records and logs.

Qualifications

* At least two years experience working in childcare or recent completion of an education program related to early child development. Preferably, you will hold a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA).
* Demonstrated knowledge of basic child development and the ability to identify the needs of all children.
* The ability to plan and organize effectively. You are detail-oriented and can work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
* The ability to deal with sensitive and confidential matters with tact and the ability to use judgment and discretion.
* Possess a positive professional attitude and high energy.
* Proficiency in the use of various information and automated office systems such as computers and mobile devices, MS Office, and web-based systems like copiers, phones, etc.

Additional requirements
* The ability to obtain and maintain Infant/Child/Adult/Child CPR certification. Within 30 days of the hire date.
* Possession of First Aid Certification. Within 30 days of the hire date.
* The ability to pass an annual physical and keep up with the required vaccinations before and after employment.
* Must be able to keep consistent and reliable attendance. Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to work extra hours as required.
* Ability to meet minimum requirements for physical fitness
A lift from the floor that can carry up to 50 pounds
You can push a crib/cart/stroller up to six children, for long distances
You should always have a Classroom Go-Bag or other emergency supplies
Use fine and medium hand manipulations.
You can assume low-level postures such as squatting, kneeling, and bending on the floor.
Ability to quickly move from a seated to a standing position in an emergency
To monitor children’s well-being and the environment, you must have hearing and vision capabilities
You can be outside for extended periods in all weather conditions and temperatures
* Must be able secure and maintain security clearances.
